A lot of people set goals in January as part of their New Year resolution with an aim to have a better year, make positive changes, have a better lifestyle, and be more productive. One of the most common goals is fitness. Usually many people take a New Year resolution to join the gym in January and strive to get an amazing physique. Come January they are well on course for their fitness journey, they visit the gym frequently in this month, but the frequency goes on decreasing as the months go by.

The reason most people fail in achieving their goals is because there is no plan of action. It's important to plan, have goals, and set yourself targets - weekly targets, monthly targets. It is necessary to set up small goals and targets which will act as the small steps to the ultimate goal.

Let me share an example of one such spontaneous goal that I set for myself and how I kept my motivation up to complete what I had started. I didn't give it much thought when I made the commitment, although one thing about me is that I am very stubborn about the goals I set for myself and I always look for ways to making that achievement happen. This is the Delhi to Mumbai cycle ride. Now when I made the commitment to do this ride, I didn't have a plan of action in my mind. But one thing that I did know was that I had access to the resources that I needed to achieve my goal. All I needed to do was to actually write down an action plan on what I was going to do.
